Ethereum is one of the most important networks in web3, and thousands of apps and builders depend on it every day. Every one of those apps talks to the chain the same way: through an Ethereum RPC endpoint.
An Ethereum RPC endpoint is the URL your application sends JSON-RPC requests to, and a node on the other end answers. Every app action is one of these calls, whether it's fetching a balance with eth_getBalance, reading a contract with eth_call, pulling event logs with eth_getLogs or broadcasting a signed transaction. Wallets and DeFi dashboards both run on them.
Reads make up most of that traffic, and most dApps and wallets reach Ethereum through a hosted endpoint. Running Ethereum RPC in production still comes with recurring problems around access, uptime, latency and billing. This guide covers each one and shows a path to a dependable setup.
RPC is the cornerstone of every modern dApp, yet Ethereum nodes are hard to self-host. They need large amounts of fast NVMe storage, plus redundancy once you go to production, and the bill grows quickly. The maths favours a ready-made endpoint at lower cost and effort.
But not every endpoint, or every provider, is built the same.
Rate limits hit at the worst time. Free and entry tiers set a low cap on requests per second. During a token launch or a volatile hour, your endpoint can start returning 429 errors exactly when your users are most active.
Data can drift between calls. Providers often spread requests across a pool of nodes. If those nodes are out of sync, two calls made moments apart can return different views of the chain, so a balance appears to jump.
Latency shows up in your UX. Users and developers now expect responses in the low tens of milliseconds. Users feel a slow or inconsistent endpoint directly, so even a small dApp needs a high-grade Ethereum RPC.
eth_getLogs is where the bill hides. Log queries are the most expensive call in most Ethereum apps. Scanning event logs means reading across a lot of unindexed data, so providers cap the block range per query. An indexer or analytics backend that relies on wide log scans burns through its allowance fast. On pay-as-you-go plans, that turns into an overage nobody saw coming.
As a staking provider to large institutions, Luganodes has always operated to high standards, because every block counts. That made us well placed to bring high-uptime, low-latency Ethereum RPC to the wider builder community.
Every request runs on owned, bare-metal nodes, monitored 24/7 by an in-house SRE team. We treat error rates, latency and alerting before incidents as first-order concerns. Builders get the same grade of infrastructure that large blockchain institutions rely on.
Plans scale with you: Free to get started, then Growth and Pro as traffic grows, plus custom Enterprise plans. Every tier runs on the same nodes.
Luganodes prices every method in compute units (CUs) you can audit. You can calculate what each method costs, so your invoice reflects only the calls you actually made.
AI Insights explains your usage in plain language: which app, chain or method drove a spike in compute units or errors. That helps you spot a runaway eth_getLogs scan before it shows up on your bill.
The free tier is hard-capped at 25 million CUs a month, with no card required. At the limit, traffic pauses instead of generating a surprise bill.
Since the Merge, many Ethereum apps need more than execution-layer eth_ methods. Tracking validator status, deposits or the withdrawal queue means reading the consensus layer through the Beacon REST API at /eth/v1/beacon/..., which is a separate interface from the eth_ methods.
Luganodes serves both from a single API key: EVM JSON-RPC for execution and Beacon REST for consensus. You don't need a second client or a second provider. Beacon access is available on Growth and above.
Create an app at rpc.luganodes.com, copy your endpoint and make your first call:
curl https://ethereum-mainnet.rpc.luganodes.com/v1/YOUR_API_KEY \
-X POST \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","method":"eth_blockNumber","params":[],"id":1}'
With a free tier, transparent metering and both layers on one key, most of the rough edges in Ethereum RPC are avoidable. Get your free Ethereum RPC endpoint
